Audacity is an open-source and cross-platform (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux) live audio recording and editing freeware. It is developed under Linux, has a point-and-shoot operation interface and professional audio processing functions and effects.

If you are interested in making music, editing music or sound mixing, then you will want to have Audacity. Although not as neat as the similar products of Adobe, Sony, M-Audio, yet Audacity has the extremely comprehensive features in the free software.
