Project I.G.I. (AKA: Sneaked, IGI is short for Institute for Geotactical Intelligence) is a series of tactical first-person shooter (FPS) PC game with realism elements and excellent graphics & sound effects design. In particular, the whole game comes with fantastic sandbox maps and playing methods, there are even dedicated servers built by fan players for online play. That’s why it’s so popular that it got numerous positive reviews from players around the world the time it came out (it has been 18 years as of this post, but AppNee is still willing to give it good praise).

Up to now, the Project I.G.I. series has only released two works: Project I.G.I.: I’m Going In (Project I.G.I. for short, with 14 missions) and I.G.I.-2: Covert Strike (Project I.G.I. 2 for short, with 19 missions). There is no such thing as another sequel “Project I.G.I. 3 (I.G.I.-3)” at all, because it indeed miscarried. Anyway, after being acquired by Square Enix from Japan in 2009, Eidos Interactive became an independent brand of SE. As a result, the possibility of launching the new sequel of Project I.G.I. series is very big.

Project I.G.I.: I’m Going In was developed by Innerloop Studios from Norway and released by the famous Eidos Interactive (you probably also played its another two famous series of game works: Thief and Hitman: Codename 47) in 2000. And I.G.I.-2: Covert Strike (AKA: Sneaked 2) was developed by Innerloop Studios and released by Codemasters in 2003, but was banned in China.

Project I.G.I. not only drew lessons from the fast-paced action shooting elements of the most classic FPS PC game Half-Life, but also inherited the realism elements from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series and SWAT 3 series – emphasized the physical characteristics of weapons and ballistic curves in our real world, got the subtle differences among all sorts of guns reflected. From the perspective of game playability, in Project I.G.I., the continuity between levels is very smooth, the game scenes change frequently (unlike Delta Force, which made players feel the same overall), and the cut scenes are explained clearly and tensely.

After more than 10 years of waiting, the classic and popular FPS game series (Project I.G.I.) finally launched a brand-new version – I.G.I.: We’re Going In (AKA: IGI – Vi går inn!, Project IGI 3), which will be the 3rd work in this series. It retains the features of the previous works in terms of content, but takes a high-freedom sandbox map as the background. This time the player will play a commander of the special forces to complete various challenging missions.

This game was made by Artplant from Norway (a new company that is composed of several former employees of Innerloop, who have bought back the intellectual property for “Project I.G.I.”, but Square Enix still owns the publishing rights for the two original games), and is still under development at present. Because they just got a government grant to make a sequel to this I.G.I series.

  • To use the game profile file, just copy it to your game installation folder.
  • In I.G.I. 2, all game configuration and mission-clear archives are saved in the single ‘config.qvm‘ file, rather than the ‘savegames’ folder (Instead, the files in ‘savegames’ folder seems to be for statistical purposes).
  • The production/quality level, seriousness and playability of Project I.G.I. 1 are much higher than Project I.G.I. 2.
  • Alt + Enter – Toggle between full screen and window mode.
