VOCALOID (AKA: ボーカロイド, short for Vocal Android) is a singing voice synthesizer program for Windows and Mac platforms, developed by Kenmochi Hideki in 2000 and released by Yamaha Corporation from Japan in 2004. It began from the simple concept of synthesizing the human vocals for singing, and has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, spawning new musicians, albums, figurines and even concerts.

Balabolka is a Text-To-Speech (TTS for short) freeware developed by Ilya Morozov from Russia, which can convert text into speech. In addition to being able to use all speech engines installed on your computer to read out the text, it also allows you to save the converted speech as multiple formats (WAV, MP3, OGG or WMA) of audio files. Partly, it is specially designed for people with disabilities or lazy guys.
