Gradually, I got used to playing my favorite audiobooks on computer at night to help me fall asleep quickly. This case, one of the problems I have to face is how to turn off my computer when I fall asleep. In fact, it is enough to satisfy my needs by simply executing a shutdown command like “shutdown -s -t 3600” or “at 23:30 shutdown -s -t 0” in CMD, or saving it as a batch file and putting it on the desktop to make it easy to execute. But it seems that we are always more inclined to do this job by looking at the GUI. So, I again searched around for several auto shutdown apps, and AutoShut is the only one that caught my eye in this round.
AutoShut (formerly called AutoShutter) is another beautiful and practical application that is rarely known to us. It has a simple, intuitive yet elegant UI, and is able to schedule your computer to shut down, reboot, log off, sleep or hibernate, with 12- or 24-hour display format. Besides, it comes with some additional features like scheduler, alarms, bookmarks (saves you the trouble of creating events with the same settings), file launcher (periodically opens any file or runs any program) and key logger (runs in the background, captures and saves simple desktop activities to a file).
Although AppNee doesn’t want to easily miss or give up any good software, AutoShut has one fatal flaw that its developers must think it over carefully – slimming down the software package. Otherwise, it will never be accepted by more users. For now, the reason AppNee released it is just that it comes with a nifty UI (while its global design is still rough at least). Who would accept such a fact? For a very simple requirement, you have to spend too much time and system resources on installing and running such a giant software. Unless, of course, you need automatic shutdown, running a program periodically, and more features.
