DAZ Studio is a unique 3D character modeling and animation design tool developed by DAZ 3D in 2005. It was started as a library containing a large number of editable 3D character models for Poser. After several years of technology accumulation from the models library development, it finally launched its own 3D software DAZ Studio. Today, DAZ Studio’s popularity in the industry has been second to none.
DAZ Studio has a skeleton system that can be edited, and most of its functions can be easily manipulated within just a single preferences panel. For example, modify the material properties such like surface color, surface map, bump map, transparency map, displacement map, etc. Because it employs DNASOFT’s technology and supports the famous photorealistic 3D rendering software – Pixar’s RenderMan in the industry, its rendering quality and speed are very excellent too. In addition, DAZ Studio supports its own DZ format, as well as the popular OBJ and PZ3 output formats.
Artists can utilize the various content creation tools of DAZ Studio (such as PropertyEditor, FigureSetup, JointEditor, MorphLoaderPro) to easily build, edit, and manage the 3D assets of custom characters created by them. For example, use GoZBridge to transform your own model into a format supported by ZBrush, so as to take full advantage of ZBrush’s powerful modeling tools for detailed character creation; 3DBridge, designed specifically for Photoshop, allows you to work interactively with 3D objects while enjoying the real-time results in Photoshop, saving both time and money. In addition, with FBXExporter, you can confidently create your content and transfer it to many other 3D content authoring tools.
For users who want to make some simple 3D scenes and models, DAZ Studio’s greatest advantage is the simplicity, although it does not have that powerful production and rendering capabilities of Maya and 3ds Max. In other words, even if you are an absolute novice, you can still create simple and beautiful 3D characters or scenes through just a few simple steps (select the theme and settings you need, configure elements, set lighting effects, etc.) with help of DAZ Studio.
