Directory Opus (DOpus for short) is a superexcellent Windows Explorer alternative with a long development history, written by Jonathan Potter from Australia, and originally developed for Amiga computer system in 1990. Its development time is far ahead of all other similar software, such as: XYplorer, Xplorer2, Total Commander, which also laid its leading position in the field of Windows Explorer/File Explorer alternatives.

Directory Opus has a concise user interface similar to Windows Explorer, features good usability, customizability, efficiency and compatibility, and supports all commonly used file operations (including: copy, move, delete, rename, find, search, replace, browse, compress, decompress, split, merge, directly send via mail, send via email after compression, print, create a shortcut, etc.), file collection options and preferences, and more. Through the settings like “Replace Windows Explorer…”, it can perfectly replace Windows Explorer, so as to make the file management operations become smooth, simple, efficient and personalized.

For now, among all similar applications, only our familiar Total Commander can be comparable to Directory Opus (in some evaluation and testing reports made for file management software, their overall score is neck and neck), and they are together called the ‘duo’ of file managers. If you have found that Total Commander is more suitable for advanced computer users who always like to use a keyboard, then Directory Opus is more suitable for users who rely on the mouse operation. In other words, by contrast, Directory Opus has the better usability.
