Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (AKA: Akumajō Dracula: X-Chronicle, 悪魔城ドラキュラ Xクロニクル, 恶魔城 X 历代记/编年史) is a 2.5D (namely 3D graphics + 2D operations) HD remake of the immortal masterpiece on PCE (PC Engine) platform – Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. It was released on PSP (PlayStation Portable) game console by KONAMI in 2007. This was the first time for the whole series of Castlevania games to launch on PlayStation Portable handheld game console.
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles largely preserved the nature of the original work Rondo of Blood. But the graphics of the game was remade and reinforced using 3D drawing mode, and meanwhile followed the 2D traditional gameplay and style of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Besides, it also included 3 other additional games: the original Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, the ported edition of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (where you can play as Maria), and the mini-game Akumajyo Dracula Peke (all of them have to be unlocked first for playing). These made Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles have more selling points.
As the first 2D side-scrolling action game rendered with 3D graphics in Castlevania series, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles new added a midway interrupt system – whenever and wherever the player can suspend and then resume the game. Plus, it also came with a Boss Rush mode, rearranged background music, and more. Moreover, although it uses a linear structure of game story line, players are allowed to direct choose the levels you like to play, which increases a lot of fun for recurring challenges to this game.
