Sea Dogs (AKA: Corsairs, Корсары) is a very classic action + adventure + simulation type of A-RGP game series developed by Akella (Акелла) from Russia in 2000. It has excellent 3D graphics and a freely resized view of naval warfare, as well as completely free game modes and strong interactivity. Player’s behavior is not restricted by the game plot, you are free to play and decide where you want to go next, but that will have a profound impact on how the game world changes.

The background of game is set in an era when the maritime exploration and trade were very popular in Europe. At that time, the pirate gangs were also very rampant. In game, the player plays a young captain, chooses a country as his hometown, and then starts his adventure in a town. There is a main storyline throughout the game, and the things you have to do include hiring crew, accepting missions, trading, treasure hunting, conquering pirates, expanding your territory, and so on.

In the sequels, the player inversely plays the captain of a pirate ship. You will sail your crew around the world with the goal, of course, of becoming the master of the sea. Along the way, you’ll experience a series of interesting adventures, such as fight with other ships, one-on-one hit with other captains, battles with fellow pirates, and alliances with some famous captains. In addition to seeking unknown treasure hiding places, trading with men, replenishing supplies, robbing merchant ships, and obtaining money, attention should also be paid to the government chases and other pirate raids.

On the sea, you can command a fleet of more than a dozen battleships, and should keep an eye on the weather, especially prepare for the dreadful storms; On land, players can recover colonies in Western Europe, or build different structures to maintain the pirate’s free country. The multiplayer mode includes fierce group or individual one-on-one hit, difficult escort mode, as well as novel conquest mode. At the same time, you need to adopt a certain strategy to fight the enemy in game.

The game combined many popular elements in role-playing games and strategy games, and used the latest (at that time) 3D modeling technology to create a realistic environment on a large scale. When you sail on the sea, your angle of view can be either a large-scale top view or a third person view. In the 3rd-person view, the scene is made from a pure 3D real-time rendering, and you can switch views by 360 degrees at will. When you’re in an onshore environment like ports, towns, islands, jungles, etc., you’ll be playing the game from a first-person perspective as the captain.
