Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (AKA: 悪魔城ドラキュラX ~血の輪廻~, Demon Castle Dracula X: Reincarnation of Blood, Akumajō Dracula X: Chi no Rondo) is a very classic and popular action adventure video game for PC Engine‘s Super CD-ROM² System, developed and published by Konami from Japan in 1993. It has received critical acclaim in the years following its localization, with some hailing it as one of the best video games ever made.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood created several “firsts” and “only ones” for the entire Castlevania series – the first to use a disc as a game storage medium, and the first (and the only) to use CD music as the background music. The large capacity of CD makes the content of the game extremely rich, and the magnificent background music sets off the atmosphere of the whole game incisively and vividly. Additionally, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is the only title in the series to be released on PC Engine, and it introduced the concept of game completion for the first time by using the memory area system.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood’s game system kept the classic 2D gameplay, but added lots of hidden elements and branching stories, maze quests, and BOSSes. In addition, the series officially began its transition from a simple platform game to an attractive adventure game. The scene production of this game is very sophisticated, and the enemies are sometimes quite shocking. All in all, its overall performance is no less impressive than Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from a few years later. If you’re a big fan of Castlevania, this game is the one you must play and collect.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is available as a remake on both SNES and PSP platforms, they are: Castlevania: Dracula X (in 1995) and Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (in 2007). And it is the direct predecessor of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that was released in 1997. In addition, AppNee also provides its PC versions and post patched rom file in English.
