RecFusion is a powerful 3D scanning application designed for users who want to simplify the process of creating high-quality 3D models, developed by ImFusion from Germany. Ideal for use with depth sensors, such as Intel RealSense, Microsoft Kinect, and Orbbec Astra, it allows individuals and businesses to turn real-world objects and spaces into detailed, interactive 3D models quickly and effectively.

RecFusion comes with friendly interface and real-time scanning capabilities, which make it accessible to beginners while still offering advanced features for professionals in industries like gaming, virtual reality, product design, and 3D printing. With its help, creating 3D models of people and objects is as simple as moving the controller around them while watching their full-color, detailed shapes take form in the preview window.

RecFusion can perform real-time 3D reconstruction, enabling users to see a live preview of the generated 3D model as they scan. This feature not only reduces the amount of guesswork but also minimizes the risk of errors, allowing users to make adjustments on the fly. Additionally, it supports single- and multi-sensor setups, making it incredibly scalable for projects of varying sizes and complexities. Whether you’re capturing a small object for detailed analysis or scanning an entire room for virtual walkthroughs, it provides the tools and precision needed to get the job done.

RecFusion boasts seamless integration with common 3D editing and printing workflows. Users can export their generated models in widely used file formats, such as STL, PLY, OBJ, or VRML, and incorporate them into other software platforms for further refinement or direct manufacturing. Moreover, with focus on accessibility, it is an efficient solution that bridges the gap between professional-grade 3D scanning systems and hobbyist-level tools, making it a popular choice for educators, researchers, and small business owners alike.

If you’re dissatisfied with your project’s outcome, you can refine and improve it using the mesh post-processing tools. These tools let you reduce the number of triangles, remove unwanted geometry or small artifacts, crop the mesh, and fill gaps – all of which can make your model more suitable for 3D printing. Once you’ve finished creating and adjusting your 3D model, you can export the project to standard file formats such as STL, PLY, OBJ, or VRML, making it ready for various applications, including 3D printing.

In a world where 3D technology is becoming increasingly vital across multiple fields, RecFusion helps democratize the process of 3D scanning and modeling. Its robust functionality and ease of use empower users to bring their creative or technical visions to life without a steep learning curve. Whether you’re developing immersive VR applications, creating digital replicas of physical objects, or exploring the possibilities of 3D printing, it provides the capabilities necessary to achieve stunning results.

// Key Features //

Feature Description
Real-time reconstruction Reconstruct objects interactively in real-time. See how the 3D model builds up on your screen and adjust the camera movement to get the best result.
Advanced Post-Processing Post-process scans with a number of advanced processing tools such as scan cleaning, hole filling and high-resolution texturing.
Record sequences Record the depth and color data for later viewing and reconstruction. This allows you to try different reconstruction settings on the same sequence to obtain the best result. You can also record and reconstruct simultaneously.
Support of multiple depth sensors
  • Azure Kinect
  • Intel RealSense D415, D435, D435i, SR305, SR300
  • Orbbec Astra, Astra S, Astra mini, Astra mini S
  • PrimeSense depth sensors
  • Kinect v1 (Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect)
  • Asus Xtion Pro Live
Sensor Settings Adjust sensor settings to achieve the best possible results

  • Use of the full color sensor resolution yielding high quality colors
  • Control exposure and white-balance as well as other advanced sensor settings to get the best texture quality
Mesh post-processing Clean up the reconstructed 3D model using built-in post-processing tools.

  • Close holes in the mesh to make it suitable for 3D printing
  • Smooth the mesh and reduce the number of triangles
  • Remove unwanted geometry by removing small connected components or cropping the mesh
  • Add socket to reconstruction for easier 3D printing
  • Specify size of exported mesh
  • Create hollow mesh for less material use when 3D printing
  • View the keyframes used for texturing as overlays on top of the mesh
Workspaces Save all projects settings in a workspace. Reloading the workspace restores all settings so that a scan can be performed right away
Export Export the 3D model to standard file formats (PLY, OBJ, VRML, STL, PCD and XYZ).
