Dynasty Warriors (AKA: 真・三國無双, Shin Sangokumusō, True Three Kingdoms Unrivaled) is a series of action role-playing games for both PC and console platforms, developed by Omega Force and published by Koei from Japan in 1997. It is regarded as another successful Three Kingdoms-themed action game after Warriors of Fate.

Dynasty Warriors is actually a spin-off of Koei’s turn-based strategy game Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, which is based upon the Chinese novel of the same name, and is a romanticised retelling of the Chinese Three Kingdoms period. Although set in historical themes, Dynasty Warriors series still makes a lot of changes to the story and characters, and the personality settings of many characters deviate from the real history.

The first game in the Dynasty Warriors series is a fighting game released on the PlayStation console, called Sangoku Musou. In 2000, its adaptation sequel Dynasty Warriors 2 was released on the PlayStation 2 platform, called Shin Sangoku Musou. It inherits the settings of some of the character styles and weapon moves from the previous game, but completely renovates the game system and transforms it into a new action hack and slash game, and sets the development direction of the entire series with a new game type.

In the following more than ten years, Dynasty Warriors has successively launched new games, and has become a huge series with comprehensive development on all platforms. Later, the shadow of Dynasty Warriors can be seen in many games. Koei has also launched multiple derivative works based on it, such as the Samurai Warriors series based on the Japanese Sengoku period, the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam in collaboration with Bandai Namco, and the Warriors Orochi series that mixes the Three Kingdoms and the Sengoku period. In addition, relying on the popularity of the characters in the game, Koei also launched Dynasty Warriors Mahjong, a mahjong-themed game. Of course, the most popular of them all has always been Dynasty Warriors.
