Police Stories, SWAT series, Door Kickers series, and Rebel Cops are all top-down shooter games in the “player plays the role of a police officer” type. Thereinto, Police Stories is the most mature one, developed by HypeTrain Digital from Cyprus. It looks like a very interesting role-playing journey, has a good sense of substitution, combines real-time action and strategic systems, and has seemingly randomly generated but actually thoughtfully designed levels.

As a very challenging action shooting game, Police Stories employs the classic pixel art style, with rich and complete plot stories and various realistic scene environments, as well as rich detailed design and comfortable BGM. Players unfold the game’s plot from the perspective of a police officer and perform various tasks, such as rescuing hostages, arresting criminals, investigating cases, etc. Players need to cooperate with teammates, use various weapons and tools, and develop reasonable tactics to complete the mission. Part of the fun of the game is working with the AI-controlled partner. Sometimes they are your right-hand man, and sometimes they become a pig teammate, which makes the game more variable.

In Police Stories, you’ll often be faced with a situation where you have some tough issues to deal with. For example, those well-designed scams, deadly alley corners, and dangerous criminals who are ready to move in the dark. However, unlike common shooters like Tom Clancy’s The Division, here, exactly like reality, gunfire is your last resort. As a qualified police officer, giving the criminals a surprise to arrest them will be your top priority.

Similarly, criminals will not lose their IQ as soon as they see you and start fighting with all their might. When they choose to deal with you, it is also the best time for the police to deploy tactics. Whether you call for support or go alone to convince the other side, it all depends on your own choice. In the game, failure to successfully resolve a case peacefully is not fatal, and you will have an array of equipment and strategies at your disposal to regain the upper hand. You can use smoke grenades, flash bombs or tear gas to break into the door, carry heavy firepower weapons for a head-on confrontation, and command your companions to use coordinated actions are all possible measures. In an emergency, you’ll also need to complete tasks such as manually disarming bombs.

The battles in the game are very exciting, and players need to make quick decisions and take the right actions to protect themselves and their teammates. The missions in Police Stories are very diverse, and players can choose different characters and weapons to complete the missions. At the same time, the game also provides some non-violent methods to solve problems, such as using tear gas, flash bombs, etc. Players can also interact with the hostages, understand their needs and try to keep them safe while avoiding accidental injuries to civilians and teammates.

The gameplay of the game can be described as very hardcore. Players need to adhere to the purpose of not killing innocent people, do their best to capture all suspects alive, and save the lives of all hostages. What’s more interesting is that when faced with some cowardly suspects, they will surrender as soon as you open the door. But some stubborn enemies will shoot you the moment they meet you. This will test the player’s on-the-spot reaction. BTW, although you can pass the level by shooting hostages, in order to get high scores, you can only shoot those suspects who refuse to surrender.

// Key Features //

  • The Surrender System allows you to apprehend the suspects without resorting to violence. Fire a warning shot near them or engage them in melee combat – those are just some of the ways you can make them submit.
  • Issue commands to your fellow cop Rick Jones. Make sure to use him wisely – and who knows, he might save your life in return.
  • Randomly placed criminals, hostages and evidence make every level run unique. The placement changes every time you restart, leading to new interesting situations and opportunities.
  • As a law enforcement officer, you will have access to end-of-the-line police equipment, such as under-the-door cameras, door blast charges and many others.
  • Various types of lawbreakers, from small petty criminals to well organised gangs and terrorists. Each type has not only unique weapons, but different behaviour and shooting skill.
  • Complex Tactical Gameplay: Try not to get spotted, don’t waste bullets, regularly check your surroundings and make sure to take criminals down quietly.
  • All your actions are scored in real time. Playing aggressively won’t get you a high enough result to start the next mission – so keep that in mind!
  • Co-op. Complete mission together for better scores and more fun!
