Screen-sharing applications are crucial for online collaboration, particularly in business settings, and can serve various educational purposes. Despite the impressive capabilities of most screen-sharing solutions, they do come with a significant drawback: they can be challenging for less experienced users, especially during the setup phase. Additionally, almost all screen-sharing solutions rely on an Internet connection.
Screen Task (AKA: ScreenTask) is a free, open-source and tiny (less then 1 MB) screen sharing application, developed by EslaMx7 from Egypt. It can easily realize screen sharing in LAN, allowing users to view the desktop of a remote computer or share their own desktop in real-time. It does not require an Internet connection, nor does it require the installation of complex remote control programs such as TeamViewer and AnyDesk. Any user can share the screen practically using only a browser.
The screen-sharing process involves two essential components: the server component, which must be installed on the computer sharing the screen, and a web GUI that enables the viewer to receive the shared screen in real-time. The client does not require any additional software installation, as they can simply use any modern browser to access the server. The server’s interface is user-friendly, providing basic information such as IP, port, and the URL needed for connection once the server is launched.
Even users with limited technical knowledge can easily share their screens with any computer within the same LAN. For added privacy, sessions can be made private using basic authentication with username and password. Additionally, users can choose to show or hide the mouse pointer during screen-sharing. Other advantages include the ability to connect an unlimited number of clients and support for multiple screens, allowing sharing from multiple monitors simultaneously.
In summary, Screen Task is a simple, lightweight, easy to use, and efficient screen-sharing solution. It is not a remote control app, but rather a tool for viewing remote screens or sharing desktop activity in real-time. If you are looking to effortlessly share your screen with a colleague or assist a loved one in troubleshooting a technical issue, Screen Task is worth considering.
