Sketchpad (short for The Geometer’s Sketchpad) is the world’s leading education software for teaching and learning mathematics. It gives students at all levels (from third grade through college) a tangible, visual way to learn maths, which increases their engagement, understanding and achievement, and makes the math itself more meaningful and memorable.
As the most outstanding dynamic geometry teaching/learning software, Sketchpad has been widely used by middle school mathematics and physics teachers, and is regarded as one of the important software tools for education reform. Until today, many middle school teachers are still learning and using it to quickly create professional teaching courseware. It mainly takes points, lines and circles as the basic elements, and then draws other more complex graphs through the transformation, construction, measurement, calculation, animation and path tracking of these basic elements.
Sketchpad can dynamically and intuitively show the position relationship and rule of operation and change of geometric objects, providing teachers with sufficient means to help them realize their teaching ideas. Users only need to be familiar with the simple skills of using this program in order to design and write their own application examples. Therefore, what the example reflects is not the editor’s technology level of using computer software, but his/her teaching thought and teaching level.
In a word, Sketchpad is a universal teaching environment for mathematics and physics, and provides rich and convenient creative functions for users to write their own teaching courseware at will. Therefore, it is applicable to mathematics, plane geometry, physical vector analysis, algebraic mapping, function drawing, and so on; and is a very powerful tool in the mathematics and physics teaching fields.
