The Forest Unseen is a forest observation notebook, which can be regarded as a natural history classic in recent years. It is also a nature note that combines professional natural observation and humanistic feelings like Aldo Leopold’s famous natural literature A Sand County Almanac. As a popular science book, it has an amazing amount of information, but all kinds of professional theories and terminologies are also interesting in the author’s notes.

In this book, a biologist uses one year as the main line to reveal the secrets hidden in one square meter of the forest for readers in each observation. He uses a small forest as a microcosm of the entire natural world, and vividly shows us the living conditions of this forest and the inhabitants who live in it. The beautiful language of this book makes readers regard the reading process as a grand journey to find the mysteries of nature. The author is like a tour guide, leading everyone to explore the wonderful world that exists under our feet or is hidden in our backyards. There are incredible precision designs of nature and the game of intelligence among living things.

Each chapter of the book begins with a simple observation, such as a salamander hiding in the leaf litter, the first bloom of wildflowers in spring. Through these observations, the author weaves a biological ecological web, explains the scientific perspective that links the smallest microorganisms to the largest mammals, and describes ecosystems that last for thousands or even millions of years. He walks in this forest every day and teases out the complex and subtle relationships among the various plants and animals that call nature their home. Therefore, every visit symbolizes a microcosm of a natural story for him.
