Lantern is a lightweight, free and open-source Internet proxy tool (developed by Brave New Software that leaded by Adam Fisk) that lets you access any blocked/censored website in any country that suffers from Internet shielding in the world. Meanwhile, it’s also the most easy-to-use, effective, fast and stable solution so far and the only tool that can rival BBWD on the speed and stability for now.
Thanks to Adam Fisk (formerly a lead developer of the peer-to-peer file sharing services LimeWire and LittleShoot) realized and creatively applied the P2P technology into the unfiltered Internet access for us all.
Lantern can be seen as the Internet + Intranet of a huge group of people in the world – we work together to defeat global Internet blocking. By running Lantern, each computer in the unblocked/free area can become a proxy for computers in the blockade zone, so that they can access the blocked websites (such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and so on) from the proxy-role computer. In addition, in the Lantern system, each computer can be used as a server too, which provides much higher speed and more stability than any other known proxy software.
Relying on P2P technology, Lantern is not only truly effective, fast and stable (even surpasses any known free and the vast majority of commercial proxy/VPN tools). Besides, you will find Lantern doesn’t like others that will affect/slow down local websites access – with Lantern, it is the same unimpeded for no matter blocked or normal websites:
Lantern automatically detects whether or not a site is blocked and then accesses the blocked site either through our own servers or through Lantern users running as access points in the uncensored world. If a site is unblocked, Lantern gets out of the way, and your browser accesses it directly to give you the fastest possible access.
Notes: the first installation and start-up of Lantern may need a little longer time or some times of tries to establish a stable and fast connection for your Internet environment. But after that, you will find Lantern’s so powerful and cool (uses a variety of techniques to stay unblocked around the world, especially the centralized and sophisticated peer-to-peer architectures) that you just want to give up the use of any proxy, VPN or other approaches you maybe knew or using right now.
BTW, after BBWD, AppNee never found a better, more effective way to access the blocked, censored websites, until Lantern. Believe us, we have 30+ similar proxy software (almost any one you can call its name) in hand developed by some guy or group from all over the world, for continuous test to figure out the best one and share it!
You may find that the biggest problem is it’s unable to download Lantern from its official site, right? Don’t worry, use the backup download links provided by AppNee, we can manage to make good software serve more guys need them all the time.
