Blasphemous is a Metroidvania (Castlevania-like) and Soulslike action adventure video game for both PC and game consoles, developed by The Game Kitchen from Spain in 2019, using Unity. Although the religiously charged plot and beautiful pixel-style graphics earned it high praise, the monotonous action design and inferior control feel make players lose interest and patience quickly.

Blasphemous combines the fast-paced skillful combats of a hack-and-slash game, and comes with a variety of religious elements and gory scenarios. The characterization is quite successful, with almost every character having an archetype. Every small item collected in game has a story behind it, recreating a grand legend in fragmentary pieces. It’s not as good as its counterparts in many ways, but its strong religious overtones and obscure storyline are unmatched by other games. All in all, Blasphemous’ horror-hunting religious atmosphere, dark and chaotic world look, and tense BOSS challenges are especially suited to players who enjoy a combination of dark elements such as religion.

In short, Blasphemous is certainly not the best Metroidvania or Soulslike game, but it’s definitely one of the most special ones out there. However, in my opinion, its lame action design, monotonous and boring attacks, almost useless equipment and skills, patchwork gameplay, cult-like graphics, and unbelievable even bizarre plot determine that it won’t go far in the future. In other words, this game is only for players with mental abnormalities (like perverts and psychopaths).
