SEGA Ten Years (AKA: SEGA10YEAR, 世嘉十年, Sega Ten Years Classic Game Review, 世嘉十年经典游戏回顾) is a collection of SEGA game resources collected and organized by a fan player from China before 2000. Originally, it had built-in three of the best Sega fifth-generation game console emulators for Windows 95/98/2000 and DOS systems, but they were all eliminated due to various problems. So, AppNee replaced them with the better replacement – Kega Fusion.

In SEGA Ten Years, all game roms were named in a DOS-compatible format – meaning you could easily play them on a DOS environment, such as using DOSBox. At the same time, this also makes it difficult for players to identify and manage the game roms by name. There are 987 game files in total. Among them, the “game-rom” directory contains all Sega MegaDrive games. The “chinarom” directory contains all the Chinese versions of some Sega games.

Some games can run with one emulator, but not with another. This is because different emulators use different technologies, so there will be differences in game compatibility. This is just normal. Therefore, when you encounter a certain game that cannot be emulated, don’t make a decision to give up too quickly. Instead, you should try to run it with another emulator, and you may be able to succeed.

Why do only a few of games not run properly in any emulator? Please understand the difference between a game console emulator and a real game console. Theoretically, it is impossible for the emulator to truly and completely simulate all the functions of the hardware of a game console, but it can be infinitely close to this goal. Therefore, there will be a very small number of games that cannot be successfully simulated.

Some games are duplicated, with different file names, such as:

  • GOLDAXE.SMD
  • GOLDAXE2.SMD
  • GOLDAXE3.SMD
  • G_AXE.smd
  • G_AXE2.smd

Some games will have multiple regional versions, such as:

  • CONTRA.SMD
  • CONTRAE.smd
  • CONTRAUS.SMD
