GDevelop is a free, open-source and cross-platform 2D game engine designed to be used by everyone, originally created by Florian Rival (4ian) from United Kingdom in 2008, using C++ and JavaScript. We can use it to create any type of 2D game for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android platforms, as well as HTML5 Web browsers, Steam platform and Universal Windows Platform.

As a full-featured, no-coding visual game development software, GDevelop is mainly aimed at non-programmers and game developers of all skillsets, employing event based visual programming similar to engines like Construct, Stencyl, and Tynker. It is lightweight, fast and easy to use, has a simple and intuitive approach to game creation, uses technologies such as WebGL, JavaScript and WebAssembly to render games, all of its game logics are built on an intuitive and powerful event-based system, and enables users to create PC and mobile games, as well as HTML5 games playable in the web browser, without any specific programming language knowledge or development experience required.

GDevelop was created with the intention of making the job of game development as easy as possible. In addition to traditional computer deployment, you can even launch it through a web browser. GDevelop has a wide variety of ready-made game templates, which allow you to freely modify or recreate. If the default options aren’t enough, it also allows advanced developers to use JavaScript to extend the game engine’s functionality as needed.
