aria2 is a well-known, long-established, feature-rich and powerful universal file downloader that is very popular among programmers. However, its command line operation mode and overly complicated installation and configuration process make it difficult to popularize among normal users. So a series of GUI front-ends for aria2 were derived, and Persepolis Download Manager is one of the best. It saves users the trouble of configuring aria2 and using the command line to download files, and simplifies the operations.

Persepolis Download Manager (PDM or Persepolis for short) is a free, open-source download manager and GUI  for aria2 on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms (also can be installed and used on Raspberry Pi, NAS, routers and other devices), mainly developed Alireza AmirSamimi from Iran, written in Python. “Persepolis” in its name is the former capital of the Persian Empire, which also represents the glory of Iran.

Persepolis Download Manager can download various files on the Internet, supports protocols such as HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, BitTorrent and Metalink, supports multi-threaded download, does not have any speed limit, downloads very fast, takes up very little system resources, supports scheduled download, can take over webpage video sniffing and downloading tools, and provides browser plug-ins for Chrome and Firefox, which is convenient for users to directly call PDM to download when surfing the Internet.
