3D-Coat (AKA: 3DCoat) is a digital sculpturing software (from Ukraine) that is specially designed for the art design work (i.e., details design) of game models. It not only integrates various real-time 3D model texture mapping and detail sculpture functions in one place, but also supports topology, volume sculpture, hardware rendering, and other important features. Moreover, it uses the normal mapping as window display technique, which greatly accelerates the speed to view and edit objects.

Pixologic claims to be the maker of Sculptris, but actually it had no choice but acquired it in 2010 due to the huge threats from Sculptris, and applied Sculptris’ advantages to ZBrush, so as to maintain the market and position of ZBrush. Otherwise, if Sculptris’ inventor Tomas Pettersson had chosen to stick to go his own way (although that would have been tough) rather than join into the Pixologic team, then this revolutionary software could have quickly eliminated ZBrush. In other words, it was his own shortcomings that killed his invention, not the competition from Pixologic.

Mari is a high-quality 3D painting and texturing software that can deal with highly sophisticated textures, originally developed by Weta Digital (later constantly improved by The Foundry) for their extremely complex and exquisite texture design requirements when they were working on the film’s visual effects. It enables digital artists to say goodbye to the complex steps of texture painting, and greatly improves their work efficiency.

As we all know, using texture rendering is a very important step when designing a model. Especially when designing animation models and game scenes, having realistic textures and 3D environment materials can make your design works more perfect, and make the game environment more realistic. In this case, you can use Quixel Mixer to produce rendering materials, and experience the most intuitive material creation process up to now.
