CopperCube (successor of irrEdit) is a free 3D authoring editor, also the most user-friendly 3D game engine. It is developed based on the free and open-source 3D game engine – Irrlicht Engine (SWFZ Engine was rewritten from this engine too), and its essence is a simple, lightweight but powerful interactive 3D scenes designing software with concise and clear user interface, convenient operation, and humanized design. It is mainly used in the production of 3D application, 3D game, 3D website, and 3D animation.

Sculptris – Do advanced digital sculpting like playing with mud

Pixologic claims to be the maker of Sculptris, but actually it had no choice but acquired it in 2010 due to the huge threats from Sculptris, and applied Sculptris’ advantages to ZBrush, so as to maintain the market and position of ZBrush. Otherwise, if Sculptris’ inventor Tomas Pettersson had chosen to stick to go his own way (although that would have been tough) rather than join into the Pixologic team, then this revolutionary software could have quickly eliminated ZBrush. In other words, it was his own shortcomings that killed his invention, not the competition from Pixologic.

Irrlicht Engine – A free, open-source and lighting fast realtime 3D engine

To learn 3D game development with limited pockets, I guess you’ve tried many classic, free, open-source game development engines like TV3D (Truevision3D), OGRE and Irrlicht Engine. By contrast, the pros of TV3D are easy to learn and get started with; its cons are that it was built based on the ActiveX control and requires the RunTime DLL to be registered before running; OGRE is better than Irrlicht in that it has a capable and vigorous engine framework, and supports for extending new functionality in the form of plug-ins (this is better than Irrlicht); but its downside is that it’s not easy to get started with.

SharpDevelop – Best free, super lightweight alternative of Visual Studio

For learning or formal development of C#, there are only two best IDE for choice at present: either the 10+ GB size of Visual Studio or SharpDevelop with only 10+ MB file size. The latter is an open-source IDE with layout similar to IDEA for Java and high flexibility & extensibility, which lets a user find everything new and fresh. It never wants to be an IDE that tries to support everything as Eclipse. Instead, it just gives you an interface, and you can do all the rest by yourself.
